You already know the shops. The one two towns over who still takes files on WhatsApp and loses half of them. The dealer who keeps asking you to tune for him because he cannot face building anything himself. The mate who bought a KESS3 last year and has been “getting round to” a website ever since.
Every one of those is a portal sale you are not making, because you are not selling portals — you are tuning files. This page is about the other option: buying licences at today’s price, putting your own price on them, and keeping what is in between.
It is not an investment scheme and this article will not pretend otherwise. It is stock. You buy something at one price and sell it at another, and the margin is real only if you find the buyer. What follows is exactly how the mechanic works, what we do and what you do, and the numbers as they stand today — so you can decide whether it is worth your time rather than being sold on it.
What you are actually buying
A TunerSuite licence is a key. Not a subscription seat, not a login on our server — a key that unlocks a full copy of the portal on somebody’s own hosting.
Three things about that key matter if you intend to hold one before selling it:
- It is perpetual. The licence does not expire. A shop that stops paying the monthly keeps a working portal with its files and its customers; what it loses is updates, security patches and support.
- It sits unactivated until somebody installs it. A key is issued, and then it binds to a domain and a machine at the moment of activation — not at the moment of purchase. A licence you hold is dormant, not ticking.
- It is one domain. One key, one portal. If your buyer later runs a dealer network under it, that is a different arrangement and we price it per business.
That combination is what makes reselling possible at all. A seat on somebody’s cloud cannot be held on a shelf. A key can.
The price ladder, stated plainly
The setup fee is £699 while the early-adopter places last, and the programme is capped at 50 workshops. When those are gone, the setup fee for a new customer becomes £1,299. That is not a marketing countdown that resets on a Tuesday; the count is on the pricing page and it only moves in one direction.
So the mechanic is simple enough to explain in one sentence: a licence bought while the early-adopter window is open costs less than the same licence will cost after it closes, and what you charge for it is your business, not ours.
We do not set your resale price, we do not police it, and we do not take a cut of it. If you sell a portal at £1,100 with a day of your own setup work included, that is a normal margin on a real service. If you sell it at £1,900 with three days of your own configuration, custom pricing tables and a trained-up team, that is also normal — you did more work.
The honest risk, before the numbers
Holding licences is holding stock. If you buy five and sell none, you have five keys and no customers, and nobody is obliged to buy them back. The setup price you paid is fixed for those keys, which protects you against the increase — it does not protect you against a shop that changes its mind.
The people this works for are the ones who already have the conversations. If you are a master tuner with dealers asking for their own front end, or you sit in a regional trade group, or you already do installs and websites for other shops, you have a pipeline. If you do not, buy one, sell one, and see how the first sale goes before you buy five.
The monthly is what makes it sellable
Here is the part that changed recently, and it changes the sales conversation more than the licence price does.
The £49.99 a month is only charged in a month the shop actually uses the portal — ten delivered files or more. A month where they do eight files, or a month where nobody opened it because the owner was away, costs nothing. The portal keeps running either way.
Ask any shop owner why he has not moved off WhatsApp and a spreadsheet, and the answer is rarely the setup fee. It is the fear of a subscription that keeps taking money in a quiet January. A portal that costs nothing in a quiet month removes that objection entirely, and it is the single easiest thing to say when you are the one selling it:
“It costs you nothing in a slow month. If you are busy enough to owe fifty quid, you are busy enough that it paid for itself twice.”
That is also true, which helps. A shop delivering ten files at even £40 a file has taken £400 that month. The monthly is an eighth of it.
What we do, and what you do
The split matters, because getting it wrong is how reseller arrangements turn into unpaid support work.
What we do, on every licence, whoever sold it:
- Install the portal on the buyer’s server or ours, brand it, and hand it over working.
- Every update on the day it ships, security patches, encrypted backups.
- 24/7 support, by WhatsApp, from the people who wrote the code — not a ticket queue.
- Migrate their existing customers, credit balances and price list off whatever they run now.
What is yours:
- Finding the shop and having the conversation.
- Your price, your invoice, your relationship.
- Anything you want to add on top — configuring their services and prices, importing their vehicle list, building their website, training their staff. That is where the real margin usually is, and it is work we are not competing with you on.
The one thing to agree up front is who the shop calls when something is wrong. Our answer is: us, always, because we are the ones who can fix it. If you would rather be the front door and pass it on, that works too — but decide it before the first sale, not during the first problem.
What the numbers look like
Take a reseller who buys three licences during the early-adopter window and sells them over the following six months.
- Three licences at the early-adopter setup fee, held as keys until each buyer is ready.
- Each sold on with a day of configuration — services, prices, branding, their vehicle list imported — at whatever the local market carries.
- The buyer pays their own monthly, in the months they are busy, direct to us. It never touches your books.
The margin is the gap between what you paid and what you charged, plus the day rate on the work you did. There is no revenue share, no per-file cut, and no clawback if the shop later goes quiet.
If you want to go further than three, talk to us. Volume is a conversation, not a published table, because a reseller who wants ten and a master tuner who wants ten dealer portals are two different arrangements with two different prices.
The questions people actually ask
Can I hold a licence unused for months? Yes. It binds when it is installed, not when it is bought. There is no clock on an unactivated key.
Does my buyer get the same price I locked in? The setup fee you paid is fixed for the key you bought — that is what you are reselling. What your buyer pays you is your decision. Their monthly is the standard one, on the same busy-months-only terms as everyone else.
What if the price never goes up? Then you have a licence at the price you paid and a margin that comes only from the work you add. The cap of 50 is real and the count is public, but plan on the value you add rather than on the increase.
Do I have to be a customer myself? No, but it helps more than anything else on this page. Selling a portal you use every day is a different conversation from selling one you have only seen in a demo.
Can I white-label it as my own product? The portal is already fully white-label for the shop that runs it — their name, their logo, their domain, on every screen, email, invoice and certificate. Reselling it as an unbranded product of your own is a different arrangement; ask.
How to start
Buy one. Sell one. If the conversation goes the way you expect, come back and we will talk about the rest.
If you already have three shops in mind and want to move faster than that, message us and say who they are and what they run now — that is usually enough to work out whether it is a reseller arrangement or a dealer network, which are priced differently and would cost you money to get wrong.
The early-adopter count is on the pricing page. It only goes one way.
