Common questions
What is a checksum?
A checksum is a mathematical verification value stored in the ECU file. The ECU calculates the checksum on boot and compares it to the stored value. If they don't match (because the file was modified), the ECU will not start.
What is CVN and do I need it?
CVN (Calibration Verification Number) is used by BMW and VAG dealership diagnostic tools to verify the ECU calibration matches the factory original. If you want your modifications to be invisible to dealer diagnostics, you need CVN correction.
Can I correct checksums myself?
Some tuning tools like WinOLS have built-in checksum correction plugins. However, not all ECU types are covered, and incorrect correction can brick the ECU. Our service guarantees correct results.
