Most modern vehicles are electronically limited to a top speed well below their mechanical capability. This is a software restriction imposed by the ECU — not a physical limitation of the engine, transmission, or chassis.
Common Factory Speed Limits
- German cars (BMW, Audi, Mercedes) — 250 km/h (155 mph) gentlemen's agreement
- Japanese imports (JDM) — 180 km/h (112 mph)

Common questions
Why do manufacturers limit speed?
German manufacturers agreed to a voluntary 250 km/h limit. Japanese manufacturers limit at 180 km/h. Commercial vehicles have legal limits. These are all software restrictions, not hardware limits.
Is speed limiter removal legal?
The modification itself is legal in most countries. However, exceeding posted speed limits on public roads is illegal everywhere. This service is intended for track, motorsport, and unrestricted road use (e.g., Autobahn).
Will my car actually go faster?
Only if your engine has sufficient power. Removing the limiter does not add horsepower — it removes the electronic restriction that prevents the engine from delivering power above a certain speed.
Can I combine this with other modifications?
