Pops and Bangs (also known as crackle map, overrun, or burble tune) is one of the most exciting and popular ECU modifications. By modifying how the engine handles fuel during deceleration, we create controlled combustion events in the exhaust that produce dramatic pops, crackles, and bangs.

How Does Pops & Bangs Work?

During normal deceleration, the ECU cuts fuel injection (overrun fuel cut). A Pops & Bangs map modifies this behaviour to continue injecting small amounts of fuel during deceleration. This unburnt fuel ignites in the hot exhaust manifold and turbo, creating the characteristic sound.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Pops & Bangs damage my engine?

When properly calibrated, no. We use controlled overrun fuelling strategies within safe parameters. However, extreme settings on stock exhaust with catalytic converters can increase catalyst temperatures — we recommend decat or sports cat for best results.

Does it work on diesel engines?

Yes! Diesel pops and bangs is possible on turbocharged diesels. The effect is different from petrol (more of a burble/crackle) but still very satisfying.

Can I turn it off later?

Yes. We keep your original file. If you want to remove the pops & bangs effect, we can reflash your original calibration or a clean remap without the overrun mapping.

Will it work with my stock exhaust?

Yes, but the sound will be more muffled. For the best pops & bangs effect, a decat or sports cat exhaust is recommended.
